Having a great grandfather who played guitar, a grandfather who was a regional Country Music Favorite, and a mother who sang in cover bands during his childhood, it is not surprising that fourth generation musician Dusty Nevada Corbin knows his way around a few instruments. Dusty’s grandfather, “Cordwood” (Truman Keeney), fronted the band “Cordwood and Family” and played live with that band on the radio station WFMD on a regular basis. Cordwood, was declared the fastest fiddler in the Tri-State Area at several competitions and even wrote a song that was recorded by country music star “Little Jimmy Dickens”. Family get-togethers always included guitars and sing-alongs and for most of Dusty’s childhood he went to bed listening to his mother having band practice in the living room. Destined to be a musician, it seems his early life was marinated in a world of music.
Growing up with a piano in the house, Dusty began playing around with keys by age 4 and started formal lessons at age 14. Dusty has performed on stage every single year of his life since the age of 7 and it was during the first grade that he joined his school choir. That event marked the beginning of 13 years of singing with several different school choirs. The next instrument that Dusty would learn would be the guitar. At the age of 13, learning the guitar came easy for the young man who had many family members very proficient at playing the instrument. Dusty would then take his love of music with him into the next stage of his life... college.
While majoring in music at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Dusty continued singing and taking piano along with other music courses. After transferring to Salisbury University he continued his music education by taking classical guitar classes. It was there that Dusty started his first rock band and began playing in local bars and at college parties. Soon after having moved back to the Frederick area, Dusty started his current band BLUENEVADA with his brother. The all original rock act has released three recordings since 2003 on their own label, Cloverspell Records. BLUENEVADA has performed all over the Mid-Atlantic from Maine to Ohio and all the way down to the Carolina’s. In the band, Dusty performs vocals, keyboard, guitar and bass depending on what song is being played. A new recording is slated for release in September, 2011. BLUENEVADA is a lifetime project for Dusty and he plans to continue to record and perform for many years to come.
Having been immersed in music his whole life, Dusty is delighted to have found a great venue to teach the younger generation of up and coming musicians in our area. Joining the staff of talented instructors at Evolution Rock School, he is able to pass on the knowledge and skills that he has been given to others.
